INTRA INSTITUTE DEBATE CHAMPIONSHIP - 2018

The ability to formulate your thoughts is something that everybody possess. However, it is the ability to put across your thoughts in such a manner that they appeal to those listening, is the gift of oration. Everybody is a speaker, but not everybody is an orator.  The annual edition of the Intra-Institute Debate Competition was organized on the 15 th of February, 2018. The debate was organized in two rounds with the first eliminations round being organized on the 13 th February, open to the whole student body. The eliminations saw strong participation on the topic ‘Is Space Exploration Ethical’. On the basis of the performance at the elimination rounds, 8 teams were chosen to participate in the final round organized on the 15 th in the Multi-purpose Hall (MPH). VIRTUOSO - INTRA INSTITUTE QUIZ COMPETITION 2018 Lex Quizzerables, the Quiz Club of the Institute, today conducted its annual edition of Quiz Competition, Virtuoso. Quizzes, more often than not, challenge our minds to focus and spontaneously respond back to the question at hand. It creates an ambience, where people of all age groups come together, and compete to win the coveted title. The Quiz was conducted in two stages, the Preliminary Round, which saw the participation of the entire college. The Top Scoring 16 students, qualified to the semi-final rounds which were subsequently held in the Multi-purpose Hall (MPH). The Semi-Finalists were grouped into eight teams, two members each. The Semi-Finals was just a mere glimpse of the spectacle of questions that awaited the participants who further qualified to the Final Round. AN OVERVIEW OF THE CHINA PAKISTAN ECONOMIC CORRIDOR

Introduction To be able to understand the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), it is important to have a brief introduction into China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) or the One Belt One Road (OBOR) vision. It is a strategic plan that involves development of up to six corridors in various countries across the Central Asia, South East Asia and parts of the Middle East, trying to replicate the ancient Silk Route. As a part of this, they also have the 21 st Century Maritime Route that attempts to link China to Europe through South West Africa and South Asia. If successful, the OBOR will connect China to up to 60 countries, boosting its GDP by up to 25%. Need for CPEC The CPEC is a part of the vision of OBOR. China needs the CPEC for two key reasons. The world has recently been on the edge with increasing tensions between North Korea, the United States and its allies primarily South Korea and Japan with North Korea recently ramping up its missile programme and nuclear tests under the garb of regime survival. Kim’s regime claims that besides learning how to build, they have also learned how to miniaturize a hydrogen bomb; competent enough to fit on the new Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM), furthermore, have also developed a system skilful enough of delivering it, and this nuclear arsenal was recently showcased to the world via various tests. These actions of the North have prompted a jittery American President who often seems ignorant of the plausible repercussions of his words. CHECKMATE 2018 – AIL’s National Moot Court Competition

C HECKMATE 2018 Moot Courts, an essential part of the curriculum, which develops and prepares a student, to argue, learn etiquettes and more importantly, teaches them how to take two situations that are exactly the same and show how they are different. This year’s event saw a Total number of 40 teams participating in the Competition including the National Law Universities. On 20 th January, The preliminary rounds and quarter finals were held and the much anticipated semi-final and the final round was held on 21st January in the Multi-Purpose Hall. The Finale, saw, School of Law, Christ University, Bengaluru and ILS, Pune argue the proposition in order to take home the glorious trophy. The finale was judged by the sitting judges of the Hon’ble Punjab & Haryana High Court along with other distinguished members of the legal fraternity.
